Somatic work rewires and recovers our Nervous System. Somatic Therapy Tools include Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experiencing and Somatics Parts Work, combined with Body Awareness Techniques. Somatic work raises awareness in the body and helps to understand how the Nervous System gets triggered and what the effects of the triggers are on the body. It helps to understand what a person holds on to, how trauma is being held in the body, how this shows up in daily life and what the thought processes go through when living in the memory of the traumas.

Raising awareness helps to unpack the triggers, behaviour and feelings associated. This means it no longer takes over or controls a person. You no longer have to live from this state of trauma. Somatic Work means building a relationship with parts of yourself and you can start to release them. The goal is to gain a deeper understanding of where we experience our parts in the physical body and the sensations we experience, the stories we tell our self and the beliefs we carry.

This helps create new identities and no longer allows the exiled and blended parts to control life. Somatic work gives internal space to breathe, be calmer, let go of old parts, build new parts, expand emotions, gain tools to use on a daily basis and release past traumas.

The purpose of Internal Family Systems work is to build up the True Self; to bring in competency, security, self led, relaxation, calm and connection; this allows the Self to lead your Internal System, creating feelings of empowerment and self sustained. IFS is an evidence based tool that works with different parts of us; identifying Managers, firefighters and exiled parts (sub personalities). These parts can contribute to difficult situations, hold trauma and cause us to continue living from a place of dysfunction. The Managers and Firefighters look to protecting us from the Exile Parts. IFS aims to unburden each part giving it a healthier role; the part can then start to trust and be led by our True Self. Using IFS is about calming these roles and integrating rather than eliminating them. When the parts reshuffle, internal change is bought on.

During our work together we will be rewiring and regulating your Nervous System through the use of Tracking sheets and 1:1 discussions. In our 1:1 discussions we will explore the relationship with The Self, challenges, Internal and External Resources, what the parts are feeling emotionally, imagery, body sensations, identifying parts and communicating with the parts. We will look at triggers, activations, past trauma, your feelings around your parts, the role the parts play, memories your mind and body hold and current behaviours/patterns in life.
